Day (?)

Work, christmas shopping, friends, and my messed up sleeping patterned slowed my progress a little bit... Well, I have the body of the character and UVing done for the body. Once I Mudbox it I will start modelling the clothes and all that jazz, and then start to colour in the UVs. I'm going to do two UVs, mostly becuase the detailing for the clothing might be too much for me to handle in one complete UV map. Once I learn more I might be able to do it on one UV.

Day 3-4

I slipped a little on the actual modelling, but I have been drawing up stuff (so sketches will appear in a couple of days). Just posting progress of my model and the line art of the character she'll be once I finish the body.

-Cheers

Day 2: Head model, finished?

Well, in about three to four hours of work, I finished the head (essentially), along with a UV. I find that the Maya 2010 does a pretty fair job with the UVs, though I still need to fix a bit and don't have the neck yet.

Anyway, continuing progress. Cheers.

Finally, I can create again!

Well, I've been trying to figure stuff out in the real world, working on my 2D art skills and what not. I finally achieved getting some 3D programs (today, actually...) and started modelling a human since, well, I don't have any models showing my knowledge for modeling humans.

Of course, being such a long time since I have modelled anything, a lot of my mind is fogged for modelling the face. I think I have a good start, slowly remembering certain things I need to have in the edge loops. Once I finish my character model, I hope to start up an environment. Hopefully, I can finish the character in the next two weeks (if work is forgiving). I'll cough up concepts later when I'm not tired and not so lazy as to not fully scan them.

Demo Reel 2010 for final semester

Demo reel for my final semester. I don't know if it will get me an internship anywhere so that I can do my hours and graduate, but we'll see what happens. Need to work on concept art now. =D

Environment Screen Caps

Okay, so some environment stuff. Screen shots in the Unreal engine. I still have to do a lot of foliage and particle effects though.

Very busy right now. My last file save for my character lost the skeleton and I haven't even finished my weight painting, so I have to start over... Which is fine I guess since I need to figure out a new pose.

Completed Texturing!... Maybe

Nearly done texturing my dragon. I think I will need to add some layers of dirt and burns on the leather and spruce up the saddle a little bit since it looks very plain and uninteresting while the texture of the fabric and tusks behind it look awesome. Also need to add some variation in the scales itself where things bend and areas where scales would typically be different. Also need to normal, AO and spec map him.

Still have a lot to do for my environment though. Hoping to get some stuff to show later today if not this week.

Final critiques on our projects this week, so just imagine the stress of getting stuff done... Luckily, some how, I do my best work in a time crunch.

Dragon Dress up!

Our newest teacher suggested I dress up my dragon a bit since it is a little generic looking. I was timid about making a complex character since I'm not all that strong in textures yet.

In the middle of learning how to properly render out stuff for demo reels, so the following images of my character are different from my previous ones. I am also unsure as to why the eyes still have shaders on them... Oh well.

AO Pass (missing the right saddle. That's only because I took it out as I worked on the other one for UVing).

I'm going to try and finish the armour textures today and work on my evironment textures and stuff... I haven't worked on that much and it's looking bad now as I look at others in the class.

Learning 3ds Max and drawing a Character Concept

Above was just a quick sketch of a character. Plan on doing concept art and character sheets for him. He may bulk up and his outfit go through a change during the process. Obviously, I need to work on my legs.

We started learning 3Ds Max, even though we only have 3-4 weeks left or so. At least I will know the basics.

ZBrush Fun!

Started messing with ZBrush recently for my character and loving it. I played with Mudbox in class, but I am enjoying ZBrush more. Prefer the interface, movements and just sculpting over all.

Just starting using it though, so I still have a lot of practicing to do. I prefer real life sculpting though, haha.

Back to work now. Just needed to update. Hope to have environment stuff up before the weekend.

Let's bang my head against the wall...

I kept promising that I would update, so here it is. This is just the beginnings of texturing my dragon. Still have to fix a bunch of things on it (colour differences, texture stretching, etc), so it's a bit of a WIP still. Once I get that done I will start working on it in Mudbox or ZBrush, or at least to the head as an example for my demo reel to show I know how to use the programs.

Will be updating soon

Been really busy with all the projects I have going.

Firstly, at this moment in time, I am UVing and texturing all my assets and my character. Monday I should have a screen cap of the level mock-up with all the textures and mosts of the assets (there are minor ones I would like to model now that I am getting ahead of schedule).

Secondly, I have commissions from people to do. They are just simple commissions though and I do them to just keep my drawing and photoshop colouring up.

And thirdly, I'm now designing my website in photoshop. I still need to figure out my header logo image (with home made typography and everything!) and then create graphics for everything else (this blog as well as the site I will be using for my portfolio).

Will have new stuff to show soon.

Hero Piece

It's been a while since I posted anything, so I thought I would post an image of my hero piece. I'm actually close to finishing it. I just need to throw on some vine foliage and water to flow out of the mouths of the statues. Also need to bump map everything. I'm thinking of taking the statues into Zbrush or MudBox to do finer detail stuff with normal maps.
It's looking pretty epic. Well... At least I think so. I can imagine the rest of the scene with lighting and everything. So awesome.

Finished up the Char Model... Hopefully!

Okay, so this week has desided to be a buggy for this project.

Magically, my USB desided to be re-write protected. I've been using it the since the start of the semester without a hitch, and then it suddenly starts going on about not being able to copy stuff and remove the write protection thing. I transfered everything off of it, but I haven't fixed it yet.

As for my actual character, I think the modelling is pretty much done. I had so many little things go wrong. Finding missing faces, finding a hoard load of added faces just after an extrude... Luckily, every time I make a change I make a new save file, so I went the farthest back I could where things weren't messed up.

And this time, I checked EVERYTHING before I mirrored Geometery.

I don't think anyone would notice too much different from the images I'm about to provide, but I did bulk up the legs and did minor fixings through the whole body.

Dragon Head Front

Dragon Head 3/4

Dragon Bottom

Dragon Top

Dragon 3/4
That's it I suppose. I'm gonna work on environment stuff again now. I have some stuff to fix and change up and some of the higher detailed stuff to work on.

(All done with Maya 2009)

Dragon, oh Dragon

So I'm still diligently working on my dragon character. I'm pretty much just focusing on him right now since I'm ahead on my environment assignment and my character model is due soon. I just roughly mirrored geometry without attaching to original mesh. All I have left to do on the model is finish off the feet and then I can see if I need any more detailing in muscles or anything. Just posting a single image now. The wings and feet I didn't attach to the body yet.

Dragon Character Update

Well... I started it I suppose. There is still a whole lot I have to do. I'm waiting to see what the modelling teacher does for dragon wings. Also haven't done the foot or the inside of the mouth quite yet. It's pretty low poly at this point. Just over a 1000 polys for one half of the dragon right now.

I have some screen shots, though I didn't mirror the geomatry over for two of them. Guess it gives an insight how I work.

Above is just with wire frame on the poly (Just half of the dragon)

Here's without the lines showing. Obviously, I didn't bother smoothing the normals for this.

And I screen cap'd a picture of it mirrored.
He's not as scary or evil as I hoped he would be, but I'm praying that once I put in the mouth with all the teeth and all the fun textures he'll look very evil looking. And, of course, if I can use more polys after the wings and foot, there will be more spiky details.

Character Designs

I think I may have mentioned that I am also working on a character for this final semester along side my environment. I am going to put some pictures up of the head, and then the body (though, unfortunately, I haven't done a good 3/4 view for the body).

At a later time I will throw up a good concept piece (and I dearly hope I can do a good one!).

Here's the body (Had to do the wing separately or it would have been big).

And below is just the head.

Really need to work on proper saving practices... I forgot to save all my work onto my USB last week before the weekend. So, when people came in to paint our class room wall, they shut off all the computers and cause them to get rid of all the desktop files.

Luckily, that 20 some odd hours of work I did, I was able to do the majority within 7 hours.

Anyway, I still need to clean up some skteches, but I can put up some random screenshots of what I'm doing in Maya for my Environment.

Here's the wireframe

Here's just the Lambart

Once I work up basic textures, I'll throw that up as well before I go into detail work.
Anyway, that's it for now.

First entery of a Game Art and Design student.

Hey, guys

I'm trying to set up a bunch of things at the moment. You see, I'm in school right now for Game Design and Development and I'm rounding the final semester. Once that is done I have to go out and get a placement (meaning who ever hires me can get free student labour for the amount of hours I have to work in order to graduate).

So, my class has been told to set up a blog. The teach mentioned a different site, but for now I will use blogger since its connected with my email.

Some point soon I will throw up some concept sketches of a character I'm working on as well as some environment sketches for the environment I am also working on.

Actually, I'm making the semester hard core for myself. Concept art, character and environment completely modelled, textured, normaled, character rigs and posed...
Needless to say, I may die before the end, but at least its from something I love doing.

I hope to also revamp the template later once I figure out a theme for everything to follow. I'll have to try and remember CSS again.

Later!
